Hello, I'm Janine Mitchell,

I specialize in all forms of pointed pen lettering (Copperplate, Spencerian, Italic, Uncials etc) and other broad pen styles (Italic, Romans, Uncial, Versals).

I like to combine my love of lettering with other forms of art including collage, botanical illustration and other decorative elements eg. Illuminated letters, Celtic, Florentine and Persian filigree work.

Working in both traditional and modern/experimental styles, I have been refining my calligraphic and art skills for six years, and have studied with many highly skilled tutors. My studies have included Italic and Flourishing with Deidre Hassed, Copperplate with Wendy Russell, Foundational/Romans with Patricia Barth and also detailed Roman, Foundational, Uncial, Italic and Brush Lettering studies in the two year extensive For the Love Of Letters course with Jill Colebatch.

Other courses have included Pointed Pen Lettering, Illumination and Decorated Letters, Italic, Brush Lettering, Paper Sculpture, Cut Letters and Layout and Design with Dave Wood.

My current studies include Pointed Pen variations, Spencerian, Italic and Versals.

I am an active member of the Calligraphy Society of Victoria and the Copperplate Interest Group of England, and regularly conduct workshops in various styles, particularly suiting beginners.
